Useful to know
A few questions,
answered.
These rooms feel open. Was that a structural change or just furniture?
Both, depending on the house. Some of it is a wall coming out, some is flooring running through and lighting doing the work. We can tell you which applies to yours after a look.
How do you decide what a wall is doing before removing it?
Whether it carries load, and what runs inside it. Some need engineering and a permit. That's checked on site, never assumed from a floor plan.
The wood details keep catching my eye. Are those built in?
The joinery in these is made for the room. It's why it lines up with the ceiling and the openings.
Can a house from the eighties end up looking like this?
Often, yes. Ceiling height and window positions are the real constraints. Everything else is finishes, lighting and layout.
Do I need a designer, or can you handle it?
Depends how far you want to take it. We can bring a designer in for the selections, or work from references you've collected if the direction is already clear.
Can we live in the house while this happens?
Sometimes, and it depends how much of the house is open at once. Dust and access are what usually decide it. Worth discussing at the visit.
How is the lighting planned in rooms like these?
Layers: something ambient, something for tasks, something to make features read. Positions get fixed before the ceiling closes up, so it's an early decision.
Can this be done room by room as budget allows?
Yes, as long as the phases are picked so later work doesn't undo earlier work. Flooring and electrical are the two that usually set the order.
Will the flooring match if I do one room now and another later?
Runs from different batches can vary. If you know more is coming, ordering the flooring together is the safer move.
