Is a home bar worth it, or does it just sit unused?
It gets used when it's where people already gather. Tucked in a spare corner, it tends not to. Where it goes matters more than what's in it.
What's the minimum space this needs?
Less than people expect if it's a serving counter, considerably more once you want seating in front of it. The seating side is what sets the footprint.
Does it need plumbing?
A sink is the usual reason, and where the drain can run decides how simple it is. Plenty of these work with a fridge and no sink at all.
Can the cabinetry match the kitchen?
Yes, and since it comes from our own shop it can be the same doors and finish. Some prefer a deliberate contrast, which works too.
Is wine storage a different job?
Anything with proper temperature control is its own build, with insulation and a cooling unit. A rack in a cabinet is much simpler. Worth deciding which you actually want early.
What countertop survives spills and bottles?
Something non-porous, because a bar sees more sugar and acid than a kitchen does. Ask specifically how a stone behaves with citrus and wine before choosing it.
How much of the cost is the appliances?
Often more than the joinery. An undercounter fridge, ice maker and glass washer add up fast. Decide which you'll genuinely use.
Can this go in a room we already finished?
Usually, though electrical and any plumbing will mean opening up some wall or floor. How far the services have to travel sets the disruption.
How do you light something like this?
Low and warm, from under the shelves and over the counter. It should read as a separate pool of light from the room around it.
